Sisterhood of the Good Death

The festival of the Sisterhood of the Good Death in Cachoeira, Bahia, Brazil, is a traditional religious event that celebrates the memory and devotion of Black women rooted in African traditions. Held annually during the month of August, the celebration is marked by rituals, songs, dances, and processions that tell the history and values of the sisterhood. The Black women wear white garments and carry their sacred symbols, as baianas do, in honor and praise of African deities. In addition, the festival also has a social and political dimension, promoting the struggle for racial equality and the preservation of Afro-Brazilian culture.
