Festival of Iemanjá

The Festival of Iemanjá is a vibrant and culturally rich event, celebrated annually in February in Salvador, Bahia. The festival honors Iemanjá, the goddess of the sea in Afro-Brazilian religions. Thousands of residents and tourists gather along the coast, dressed in white garments, to pay tribute to Iemanjá by offering flowers, gifts, and miniature boats carrying offerings into the sea. The atmosphere is filled with music, dance, and colorful parades that showcase the diversity of Bahia’s traditions and cultural heritage. The festival stands as a beautiful expression of faith, unity, and reverence for Iemanjá, and has become one of Salvador’s most significant and enchanting events.
